From the Cellar,
Greetings to everyone and it have been sometime since my last Blog but so much has happened in that period of absence!
With our current climate of a huge market demand for our Craft beers we have had to install a further 3x6800lt fermenters at Ferry Rd to supplement a short fall on a couple of our very popular brand of Rogue Hop and Wobbly Boot amongst our vast range which is helping at this stage.
The biggest news is that Harrington’s have bought out Matsons Brewery about six weeks ago which is situated at 6 Tennahaurn Place off Parkhouse rd Wigram. So we vetoed the Wigram Project for now and have been gutting out the old 25hl plant and replacing it with our Ferrymead plant ( Better Vintage ) that had been mothballed since the earthquakes some 3yrs or more ago, a task that Craig Harrington has undertaken of working the long hours doing the assembly of also fabrication. We are also bringing in a 100hl plant alongside in a projected 6 weeks’ time.
We are pretty excited about the concept of fulfilling our market volume deficit which is constantly growing by having this valuable procurement.
A canning line will soon be commissioned there later this year.
Harrington’s breweries was established in 1991 so we have grown, we may seem a large enterprise in comparison by other craft brewers but were still very much “hands on”, individually batch brewing and we stand personally by the code of Craft Brewing which also inherits other interpretations or definition of Craft brewing in the mix that brings out a good healthy debate!
The Brewery comes with a Bar accompanied with a Beer Garden and an off licence. We will be holding brewery tours through that site and maybe functions etc, watch this website for more info coming soon.
The Harrington’s Riccarton Bar is increasingly getting popular since the take over and complete makeover, give it a visit as the food and entertainment is great and I personally can vouch for the beers as we also have a range of guest beers too , so get on down there meet the friendly staff at 66b Wharenui Rd Riccarton.
Beers of the month for these cold wintery nights are;
Brewers Selection IAPA (Imperial American Pale Ale ) 9.5% ABV
Full American hops that of Centennial, Simcoe and Chinook which gives flavour of citrus accompanied with great floral aroma. Full malt texture balanced out with a warming finish of the alcohol, this IAPA is made with great complexity that gives you a satisfying drinkability.
Food match is of Green lipped mussels in brine accompanied with Blue Vein cheese and crackers whilst watching the Rugby if you’re a Fan but not too many you will never see the end of the match…..trust me, or go all out with a spectacular dish of Venison Medallions with Juniper and orange and have it at the table in place of a bottle of wine……Match made in heaven!
NgaHere Gold Strong Lager 7.2% ABV
An infamous brand that dates back to 1991 but tweaked over the years to what it is today,
Pleasant and easy to drink, Light in texture with residual sweetness balance with subtle bitterness followed through with the warmth of alcohol to compliment this delicate beer, consume this beer with caution as it’s very easy to drink hence its recommended as a suggestion to food match with a favourite of mine, Pad Thai which complements the lemon grass flavour dish or even with a Green Curry!
Well once again myself and the Harrington’s and all the staff thank you for your constant and continuing support!
Cheers Till Next Time!
